Science Week 2022
Science Week 2022 is asking people to explore the infinite possibilities of science.
As a society, we have shown our resilience and ability to withstand adversity, bouncing back from difficult challenges we face in our daily lives and as a collective. Science is an important part of a shared better future – helping us to understand our world, inspiring new opportunities, and providing potential solutions. From the infinite variety of our amazing planet and the adaptability of nature, to our ability to face the unexpected, the possibilities are endless. We have many choices to make and more challenges to face, and we are all part of the conversation about the role that science can play.
Junior Infants investigated what happens when you put an egg in vinegar. They observed changes over 3 days and took the plunge on Friday to see if the inside off the egg had changed - turns out it hadn't!
Senior Infants built their very own erupting volcano!
1st class investigated static electricity as well as removing an egg shell without touching it!
2nd & 3rd class explored constructing houses with various materials, experimented with lava lamps and dancing raisins too! They also investigated how the colour from skittles would dissolve. To finish the week, they also researched all the careers in science to showcase the infinite possibilities within the field.
3rd & 4th class took part in Science Foundation Ireland shows on mindfulness & energy from our bodies as well as design challenges. They also investigated light - casting shadows, opaque, translucent and transparent.
5th class took part in the Teagasc "Say Cheese" webinar. They also had their own science fair!
6th class travelled to the Lifetime Lab in Cork for an electricity workshop. They learnt about circuits, switches, motors and currents. The class constructed circuits to run fans, lights and buzzers. From there they built robots and cars.
Science Week 2022 was a terrific success!
